The monochromatic color decision was inspired by cat's fur colors. Cats, I found, only have a certain range of fur color, from bright white, to all shades of yellow-orange-brown, to the darkest black. This observation was then combined with the fact that cats might not see the world the same eyes human eyes does in multicolor.
Because the story is told through Cemong's perspective, I want to try to push the idea of 'rough life on the street as a stray'. I proceed to do that by pouring my focus on building the atmosphere through intense contrast, which I drew inspirations from my favorite noir films.
I worked closely with my Art Editor, the Author, as well as the Book Designer through out the whole process which overall took a little over 2 months.
